Colosseum Urban Project
Re-design of the Colosseum area.
Order Study
I had chosen the Corinthian order to study from the Pantheon to compare to the one in San Lorenzo as it took precedent from the Pantheon order. The differences in size and decor is seen on this plate, yet the concept is kept similar. The study helps in my own precent studies and incorporating my own take on antiquity into my own proposals.
Building Comparative Study
The purpose of the comparative study is to take from ancient classical precedent from two different periods to compare measurements and proportionality. The Tempietto Barbaro takes precedent from the Pantheon and is studied on this plate.
Villa Design Project (ongoing)
The villa involves a center for visiting scholars and archeologists who will be pursuing their studies at the historic sites of Rome. The facility includes residential, academic, social and service functions. The floor plan is kept to the main overall 9 equal partition. The facade keeps to the classical proportions of doric, ionic and corinthian. Roman classical trait of verticality in windows is kept and a rusticated ground floor portico is added inspired from the Roman baths antiquity. The arch openings contrasts the rectangular windows. Maximum amounts of terrace space are added to give views of the lake, gardens and Colosseum as shown in the site plan on the next page.
Villa Design Project
The site is to the south of the Colosseum and the first steps were to analyze the site with major axis in connection with the Colosseum and Vignola's gate to my proposed villa. My intent for the site drew inspiration from Villa Farnese in Caprarola-The Casino. One's perspective is hidden until the last possible moment, which I incorporated in the front north entrance. The site is intended to be picturesque. Also northern and southern entrances serve as public and private areas depending where one enters. The purpose is to be flexible and not limiting one's experiences through the site. Because the site is designed to harmonize with nature, the villa design is simple and not ornate. Also, the villa's purpose is for scholars to work with only occasional guests so elaborate details didn't seem appropriate.
